RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

That's probably my problem...I like high power, light, and slow lately. I better get out of the habit becasue I can see it screwing things up for other planes like my Extra, Skybolt, and 182. I've...

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

Wes, glad you got back in one piece! Thanks you for your compliment, and a big thank you for your service to us all. I'm as nervous as heck for the re-maiden. Hopefully my next thread or post...

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

Pics as promised. I took a hit weight wise with about a foot of carbon fiber arrow shaft and 3/4 balsa tri stock gussets, but I think it will handle the weight fine, and way stronger. Of course, I...

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

Thanks for the sympathy, guys. I'm trying my hand at building the electric version Polaris right now. I'm gonna use that to get used to a delta wing, and also part of the healing process :).

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

I haven't been on this thread for a while because I had a problem landing this thing on it's maiden. I crunched it up pretty good to say the least, and it's easily the most painful crash I've ever...

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

Scott,
I too will be ordering one, and read the thread at RC Groups about it. Very cool! Are they in stock now? $108 bucks and just add RX and servos. That's a good deal!

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

OK, so here are the pics I promised a few weeks ago. The first one shows my servo mount, and the access hatch I built into the nacelle. The next ones show the NS in it's 'blank canvas' stage. Then...

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

Throttle servo mount is figured out, and I'll be posting some pics later today hopefully. Strakes need a little work yet. I'm still in the realm of keeping this thing around 6 1/2 pounds.

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

Tonight, all of my planning, all of my wood replacement, all my scooting the ass end up 1 1/8 inch; culminated into the building of the elongated engine pod and firewall. The prop line on the plans...

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

Do any of you informed gents think that solid tail surfaces are necessary? I bet I could shave a few ounces by cutting lightening holes in the tail group and ailerons. Every ounce matters, right? ...

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

I'm after the durability of epoxy paint for the hull. She's gonna see a lot more snow and ice than water.

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

Got my wing glued on last night. I fiberglassed the bottom of the hull and the tip floats first. I will be covering with Monokote, except where i glassed. I will overlap the mono with epoxy paint....

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

Welp, I bit the bullet and performed surgery on the Northstar last night. Scooted the entire tail assembly 1 1/8 inch forward. That should help big time in CG placement. I split the fuse at f7,...

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

Ok, phase 1 of wing is done. I am at the stage in the fuselage where you start sheeting from the step back. After fitting the wing on, I thought more about sliding the whole tail assembly forward. ...

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

Perhaps it could be CG then? I'm pretty sure Duane didn't remove weight to the nose when he put the lighter two stroke on. So he's got a slightly rearward CG of where he was originally. Just a...

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

I am convinced it is lack of speed, after seeing my buddy Duane's exhibit the wing rock with the 65 four stroke. Once he put the 60 piped two stroker, no more wing rock, just rocket speed. I don't...

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think

He didn't move the fuel tank to the CG. Not sure of the make, but it is an older 60. I'm sure it's lighter than the 65 4 stroker he had on before. He's happy, anyway.
