RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

There is only one way to do things right: doing things right! Whenever size of material allows to copy the real thing, there is no way to do it better!
Well done!

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Meanwhile, I checked the webpage. It seems that Google translator played some tricks on translation, which caused the mislead.
In the original portuguese phrases it was more evident. I tried to...

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Well I was just going to clarify that point. It is NOT the Pilot Decathlon, it´s a reduced MMF Decathlon with Fibreglass parts laminated from molds taken from Pilot Kit parts, as well as the overall...

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Joe I gave you already the hint: a couple of hardwood 1/4" sq. cross braces as on my pics, firmly epoxied in place, stiffen up the fuse - because of physics, there is no way to twist it unless...

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

You´re right, my design uses balsa ony to make the sandwich on the plycores and to sheet the wing. All else is 5/32 ply. Nevertheless, the stab rods go thru 1/2" like yours, except it´s ply....

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Here a couple of better photos of the fin/fuselage transition on some of my models - all done without a balsa block underneath.

Cheers

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Fellows
let me throw in my .02c

If the wires do it on the original, why wouldn´t they on the model? The secret is on the lower wires: they anchor firmly on a fuselage tab on each side - I...

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Well, I offered to pull off one of my 35% which perhaps would fit on the wider than normal 33%Hostettler design. Height would not be a problem, Just a matter of cutting off the bottm till fit.

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Martin I´d be glad to send you one of mine, however the WH Design is out of scale and I doubt it would fit. WH is wider than normal...
Nevertheless, tell me the width of the top fuse and the width...

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

That would be the scale height of the landing gear.
Anything highr or lower will spoil the scale look of the model.

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

6 1/4 seems pretty low to me, my calculations tell me about 8 inches would be right, added to 2 1/2 radius of a 5-inch-wheel gives 10 1/2 from the ground to the LG base plate.
Check the front view...

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Guys my ,02c

a) Spar x struts mounting: I use an L shaped (an U-Channel would be even more scale) like the pix below screwed onto the spar on my planes - and they´re 3/8 x 3/8. Enough,...

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Hi Martin
considering my plane is 35% my wingtips would obviously be bigger.
Profilewise they´re more bulged as I use the original NACA 2412 profile, and WH uses a flatter profile.
Chordwise...

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Martin, Ken built his carving and shaping balsa blocks, then hollowing them. Lotsa work but nice end result too.

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Martin, on mine they are FG parts screwed on just like the fullsize. Send me a scaled drawing of the wing profile, and the chord, and I´ll check if my tips would fit...

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Martin
I assume Hangar 9 took over the Oracover collection and renamed them under own brand. If I was Oracover I would not allow that. After all, the brand is your most important asset, and in...

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Thanks Martin! That 35% Decathlon was my new flagship (built and delivered a year ago).

The covering I always use is Oracover.

The colors are Oracover (iron-on)
Standard Colors - 21-010...

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Bobt2 Ulracote is not the same thing as Oracover. Oracover has the same name worldwide. I am sure it must be available in good hobby stores or mail order services. Same for Oratex.
And Oracover is...

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Bobt2 you have the option of doing it Oratex, all out in the colors you want, the only "paint" will be the FG parts (anyway) and one clear cote to seal the fabric, you can bring the plane over to a...
