RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I saw an add for the Turbo Head muffler and was wondering if anybody has had any experience with them on a 125? Also what is it that they are supposed to do?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I posted about the idle on my saito 100 a few days ago and it dies at all settings exept above half throttle. It will idle for 5-10 seconds before it dies at all settings. If I leave the glow starter on it won't dies so my question is could it be my GLOW PLUG? What are the stmptoms that the plug is bad in a four stroke? The coil is in great shape but could the catalyst be burned off? What would cause this? This is the saito SS plug and it has no carbon build up on it!!!! PLEASE HELP fast, I want to fly tomorrow!!!!!!!!

You need to give us a bit more information before we can help you. It is not uncommon for a new out of the box engine (never ran before) to not idle or transition properly, even with a perfect glow plug.
1. How much running time has the engine accumulated?
2. Did you break the engine in according to the instructions with the recommended fuel, prop and glow plug?
3. what size prop are you using?
4. which fuel are you using?
5. How is the fuel tank mounted? Is the centerline of the fuel tank higher than the center of the carb's rotating barrel?

It almost sounds like your LSN is set just a bit lean.
And yes, the plug could be bad. I've had plugs go bad on brand new engines after a few runs, possibly because some machining by-product got into it and contaminated the element. Replace the plug and it runs OK.
After checking all the issues such as tank position, etc., see if the LSN could be adjusted, only 1/8 or 1/16 turn at a time.
Just my $.02

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Perhaps someone can help. I want to pipe my exhaust out the bottom of the cowling so as not to cut it up sticking the muffler out the side. I have a sato 82a installed inverted. I found a flex pipe but it does not have a pressure tape for the fuel tank or threds on the other end to install the stock muffler. The engine has 12mm female threads into which the muffler is installed via a short pipe.
Thanks,
Larry

you might consider a turbo muffler it has solved my problem of cutting up my cowling. and i'm going to purchase another when i get the funds for another saito for my U Can Do 46. So i can keep my cowling intact as much as possable. Just a thought or you can tap the flex pipe for a pressure nipple.

Just a few days ago a friend of mine who has a 82a on a Piper Pawnee has the flex pipe which he tapped for the nipple. Even without the muffler it wasn't all that loud. The flex pipe broke from metal fatigue it should be supported somehow on the end [some kind of "soft mount?]

My Saito is Newest version and I cannot find the low speed adjustment,I think they did away with it because there is a hex head
insert were the adjustment should be and it is not adjustable,it runs awesome and idles fine though.

Do you think that taping the flex pipe will provide enough pressure for the tank. I can not tell from the picture of it, but it looks like a open pipe with no restrictions as best I can tell.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Older Saito 80 has a strange problem. I could use any advise.
I have a Saito 80 mounted inverted in my World Models Clip Wing Cub. It starts easily, run fine up to half throttle, but not beyond that. I've had the cowl off - with no difference. I do not think it's a over heating problem. I've had a couple of Saito guys, try to tune the engine all to no avail. They are puzzeled too. I'm at about 2 1/2 - 3 turns on the high speed, and about 2 1/4 on the low spped. Transistion is good as long as you I don't advance past 1/2 throttle. It then start to run REAL rough and wants to quit. It WILL then Quit - even with a glow starter attached! If I run the throttle back to idle or so, it will start to run again. We move the back pressure tap closer to the exhause (thinking that might help) as I have an extended pipe on it, rather than the standard muffer. I've had it rebuilt/adjusted about a year ago from an Authorized Service center here in Texas.
Any clue as to why it will not run past half throttle?? Oh, I've tried different fuels to eliminate that as an issue. I generally run Omeaga 4 stroke fuel, but a friend loaned me some YS 20/20 to see if that would help. No difference. Plug is the OS type F, for 4 strokes.....
Thanks David W.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hey Sigman
I have a question for you.
How much thrust does a Saito .56 have?
It is the newer one. I have a Edge 540 with a all up weight
of 5.5 lbs. What do I need for a prop to make this engine
hover this plane? Or is it to small. Any advise would be great.
Thanks Fred
P.S If any body knows please let me know.
Thanks again

I have settled on the muffler offered by "Performance Specialties". http://www.pspec.com/default.asp It comes with a 90 degree elbow, a pressure tap, and the ability to route exaust out the cowle via silicon tubing. According to the dimentions provided it should all fit nicely inside the cowle. It has about the same dimentions as the TurboHeader Muffler. All for $59.00 shipped.
Thanks to all for their input.
